Deworming, Rewarding & Punishing – Necessary Evil to Pet Parenting 🙂

Deworming your pets: Deworming items can be purchased from pet stores, vet clinics or even at some supermarkets. Puppies and kittens need to be dewormed every two weeks until 12 weeks on then do it every 3-6 months.

Rewarding your pets: Timing is everything! The reward must occur with 1-2 seconds of the behaviour you wish to reward. Rewards can come in many different forms like food treats, praise, or their favourite toy.

Punishing your pets: Punishment can seem useful but hardly ever works, it is only guaranteed to upset your pets! Punishment makes it hard for pets and animals to learn as they are too busy experiencing fear and stress to figure out what you’re trying to accomplish. If you punish your pet at the wrong time they will associate the punishment with the wrong thing and feel disheartened and confused. However there are ways you can punish your pet without being overly harsh, is your dog excessively barking? Tell him to stop in an authoritarian voice then put him in another room until he stops, then let him out to re-join the family again, he will quickly get sick of being locked away and learn his lesson.

“Happiness is a warm puppy” – Charles M Schulz

Are you in search of a dog who is as loyal as a Golden Retriever, as smart as a German Shepherd and who can run almost as fast as a greyhound? Well, there is one such fine specimen in the canine world – the Indian stray dog.

Here is looking at why adopting the local stray dogs a practical option:

    • Most of the imported breeds are unsuited to the sub-tropical climate, whereas the Indian stray dogs are acclimatised to all the seasons in the tropical zone.
    • They follow you wherever you go and are your self-appointed bodyguards. Given the increase in the crime rates in the city it will definitely calm your fears to know that your faithful hound is just a step behind you protecting you from antisocial elements.
    • Stray dogs do not have genetic health issues as opposed to pure breeds as they have been on streets for a considerable amount of time and used to harsh conditions.
